Martha Stewart Show Has Been Cancelled!!

Having spent many years in the floral industry, I can honestly say that I have a very big Love/Hate relationship with Martha Stewart.  I mean, if I have to tell one more blushing bride that the cute little delicate bouquet of lilly of the valley that is so predominantly placed on the cover of every June issue of Martha Stewart Wedding Magazine, that she can't have that bouquet unless she plans on spending close to $5K for it and watch their little lace and pink bunting heart break...I will shoot myself!!

However, I have great admiration for her as well.  She has made her mistakes and has paid for them, although had a man made the same mistakes, and trust me they have!, he would not have raked through the media frenzy fed fire that Martha was.  Then to watch her rise from those proverbial ashes to set her business, which she created from her family kitchen, once again be a multi-billion dollar industry...kudos Ms. Stewart...KUDOS!!

But I believe the economy and recession has greatly hurt Martha and she has/is unable to conform to today's family needs.  People are no longer able to make the recipes that require 49 different exotic, hard to find, and expensive ingredients as much as they are able to place an arrangement on the dinner table of their next dinner party that consists of 300 stems of pink peonies which cost $12-$15 a stem.  Unfortunately the viewership of her daily talk show has crashed as well and Hallmark channel has decided to cancel her show
Hallmark Channel, its current home, has informed Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia that the economics of the show in its current form just don’t work anymore, given the sparse audience.
Handed the discouraging news, Martha’s TV family is planning a lavish Oprah-style send off for the program, according to sources close to the situation.
Part of the problem for the show is the sky-high production costs.
[...] Cable industry sources say Hallmark is in talks about what other roles Martha might play in other shows from the MSLO stable. However, others told The Post that Hallmark has plans to expand its lifestyle lineup beyond Stewart’s contribution. The show averaged 225,000 viewers in 2011, and 41,000 viewers in the key demographic of females aged 25-54, according to Nielsen.

Will our diva demigod of the dinner party once again rise from the burst bubble of yesteryear's economy to once again take her place on the throne of domestic godessness? Only time will tell, but I am putting my money on not counting her out just yet.
