Ok...can we talk some Kelly Clarkson? We are about to go an almost 10 year journey of that always awesome Ms. Clarkson! I have been a HUGE fan ever since season 1 of 'American Idol'. When she took the stage in that male suit & tie look with the fedora and sang "Natural Woman" OMG!!! We had some church up in my living room!! She hit that high note, the clouds parted and rainbows, glitter and unicorns rained down!
(( DO NOT CALL! Phone Lines Are Not Open ))
I was hooked, I had her # on speed dial every week, calling till my fingers bled! Then we came down to the finale of the show and she stepped onto stage and sang "Respect" I still get chills when I hear her sing it! I turned to my partner at the time and said, "Someone slap a tiara on that bitch's head, cause she just won this damn thing!!" And she did!
The first single off her first CD Thankful was the song she sang at the Finale of the show, "A Moment Like This". I didn't really care for the song when it debuted on American Idol and I still didn't care much for it when it was released as a radio version. But you know I was standing in line to get my hands on that CD! OMG then they released the 2nd single from the CD "Miss Independent". Now this was the Kelly that I fell in love with! Her vocals were intense and oh so edgy! Absolutely perfect! The rest of the CD was ok, but you could definitely tell that they rushed to get a CD on the shelves and ride the wave that had been created by "AI" .
Enter CD #2, Breakaway. There is not enough room on this blog to talk about all of the songs that I absolutely loved on this CD and show videos for them all. With this CD she left behind her Idol show Pop status and entered into more of a "rock" world. And she did it brilliantly. The first single, "Breakaway", was a great little ballad and was the theme song to the movie "The Princess Diaries 2". Then there was single #2, "Since U Been Gone"....and OMG I wore this song out! Yada Yada ... The song and video was so edgey and earned Kelly a Grammy and a MTV Video Award. Singles 3, 4 & 5, "Behind These Hazel Eyes", "Because of You" and "Walk Away" were all high in the charts and this CD, which also won Kelly a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album, set her as an international star.
When CD #3, My December was released there were rumors of very large problems between Kelly and her record label as well as management firm. The first single released was "Never Again" and showed that she was still an amazing rocker. The rest of the singles released did not fair as well and this became Kelly's least productive CD to date.
However, let's talk about other songs and performances during this same time frame. In 2007, Reba McEntire and Kelly re-released Kelly's single "Because Of You" as a duet and did the video together. It was a splended vintage video in true McEntire fashion.
Now, let's flash back to when Ms. Kelly was a young'un on the Idol stage, I remember telling my hubby that I would pay a fortune to hear her and Martina McBride do a duet. Those of you who are unfamiliar with Martina, she is a country star who has a set of pipes on her and can definitely belt out a tune. I always wanted to see these two sing it out in a Battle Royale. Well so in 2007, CMT awarded Reba McEntire with the "Giants of Country Music Award". Kelly first sang Reba's hit single, "Why Haven't I Heard From You", bringing the audience to their feet.
And then the all awaited, forever anticipated "Belting Battle Royale" when Kelly and Martina sang the duet "Does He Love You?" It was some serious amaze balls with a side of awesome sauce. They started singing the song on separate sides of the stage, often shown via a split screen, kind of like the Rosie/Elisabeth debacle but more tasteful ... and then as the bridge of the song approached, they stepped towards each other, finally facing one another, I needed my smelling salts cause I was catching the vapors .. and then Kelly hits that last run of the bridge and sends it over the fence for the last chorus!!! ... and OMG more church was going on up in my living room!! All that was missing was my Sunday goin to church hat!
In March, 2009, Kelly released CD #4 All I Ever Wanted. The CD debuted at #1 and put Kelly in the top 10 of Billboard's The Best of the 2000's . Her first single from the CD "My Life Would Suck Without You" was once again a catchy little song that debuted in the top 100 at #97 and then rose to #1 the following week, this broke the record for the largest leap to the top spot, which was formerly held by Britney.
She has since done another country music duet with Jason Aldean called "Don't You Wanna Stay". This song went to #1 on the Country Music charts and made it Kelly's first country #1.
Now here we are anxiously awaiting her next CD...#5, Stronger, which was pushed back from a March, 2011 release to tomorrow. We have had sneak peeks, leaks and snippets of her first single off of the CD, "Mr. Know It All", which was officially released a couple of weeks ago and now we finally have the video!! And I officially LOVE IT!
Ms. Clarkson has come a very long way in the almost 10 years since Idol. She will always and forever be my favorite from the show and has done a splendid job of stepping out of that spotlight and creating her own. I love me some Kelly!! Now if ya'll will please excuse me, I need to go find my Sunday goin to church hat, cause I anticipate having some church up in here come tomorrow!!!
