In the insane asylum that is the National Organization for Marriage, Jennifer Morse is like, a Level 6 nutjob.
At a February 17 speech, Morse, the head of NOM’s Ruth Institute, called the death of Rutgers student Tyler Clementi proof that LGBT people shouldn’t be supported or associate with one another.
Speaking with Catholic students from at Iowa State University, Morse was asked how they should respond to peers who identify as LGBT:
That kid Tyler Clementi who killed himself, who threw himself off the George Washington Bridge? Do you know this story? Okay, then I’m not going to tell it. There was a much older man in the picture. There’s usually more to the story, right?
And so I think friendship is what you have to offer. There are a lot of situations where people are doing something sexual that’s probably not the best thing for them and that would be better if they had somebody who would be friends with them without coming onto them or without judging them and that kind of stuff.
We get this idea that the gay-rights movement is very militant and they’re demanding this and pushing that, but when you really get down to it, a lot of the young people are quite confused and lonely and need help and support. And they’re getting help and support not from the Christian community, they’re getting help and support from the gay activists, who have their own thing that they’re doing—which is not necessarily to help the individuals, but some sort of political vision.Joe and Jane Clementi, Tyler’s parents, are demanding an apology:
“To exploit our late son’s name to advance an anti-equality agenda is offensive and wrong. By doing so, the National Organization for Marriage prove that not only is there no low they will not sink to, to advance their cruel agenda—but that neither they nor Ms. Morse have any grip on reality. The very idea that Tyler’s tragedy happened because of too much support – instead of not enough – is ludicrous. Shame on them.”
When I read stories such as this, it sends my blood pressure to CRITICAL! As a child, I was raised in a very religious household. I was "force fed" the ten commandments and the B-Attidudes etc. My mother, who was a very religious woman was also one of the kindest women that you would ever meet. She cared and loved everyone around her. Of course, she had her religious issues when I came out, but through the years, she has found her acceptance with her gay son and her personal beliefs. I truly feel that her views of her son, his lifestyle and his partner (she adores the hubby) no longer conflicts with her love of God.
I, myself, honestly do not care if you believe in god, a higher power or the spaghetti monster. But when you start shoving those beliefs down other peoples throats and using those said beliefs to belittle and condemn someone else....then you are nothing but a hypocrite.
Francis Chan said "Do you know that nothing in this life will ever matter, unless it is about loving god and the people he has made." So many "christians" very vocally do the first and very very rarely do the latter. HYPOCRITE!
The gay community is fighting on so many different fronts for rights be it in the workplace, adoption, or marriage. How do hate groups such as NOM lump all of that into one category It is beyond me. I guess they just consider anything LGBT as an abomination thus God hates it.
I was recently watching the stand up comedian, Jim Jeffries and in his routine he was speaking as god and his hatred for homosexuals. He said something along the line of, I know I mentioned not eating shrimp 8 times in the bible and homosexuals only twice, but I really hate fags. People really seemed to love shrimp so I over look that one. Funny but very true! These hypocrites piece pick from the bible, and only apply that which they can "live" with. Soooooo frustrating!
As far as Tyler Clementi is concerned, the loss of a young life whether they are gay, straight, purple or plaid is a terrible terrible loss and for asshats like NOM is flippantly use his death into the supposed "gay agenda" and their hatred is wrong on every level! Everyone needs to realize that suicide does not end the changes of life getting worse. Suicide eliminates the possibilites of life ever getting better!!
NOM remains reprehensible, as sick as those twisted sisters from Westboro. The good thing is, that as the issue of gay marriage allows everyone the opportunity to examine their attitudes towards gay people and come to realization that gay people are as capable of love as straight people, NOM's influence will continue to shrink and shrink, because their audience continues to shrink. That is true of NOM, Fox News, the NRA, and all the conservative hatemongers that have this reality, this world... confused with the stupid, hateful rhetoric they keep throwing out there for the media to jump on. But these groups will always exist, for: Without conflict there is no news. Without news there is no reason to watch. Without people to tune in, there is no revenue. - Uptonking from Wonderland Burlesque
